Pierre Commarmond Biography
Commarmond was a landscape painter from Lyon who specialized in mountain and ocean views. Along with Broders and Soubie, he produced some of the best French railway posters of the 1920s and 30s. [PAI-XXIV].

A student of Karl Cartier, he attended the workshop Galland. Then, working with Editions Mayeux, he organized exhibitions of tourism in the stations and carries out numerous posters for railroads. Member of French artists, the exhibition of the French School and the School of Marine is a recognized artist who is working closely with Laurencin, Brayer, Jouve, Rigaud, Montezin and Dunoyer de Segonzac. Mobilized again in 1939 and imprisoned at Oflag XIII A, he mounted several plays, which he designed costumes and sets. On his return, he was hired as artistic director of Editions Chaix. His travels through France and Europe, he reports of endearing landscapes. Predilection using gouache, he endeavors to represent nature with a simple emotion and a high standard of accuracy.
