Ariane, Theatre National de l'Opera. This recreation is taken directly from the original turn of the century lithograph to bring to life the detail or of the original. The Greek legend of Theseus' abandonment of the Cretan princess Ariadne on the island of Naxos after she helped him to destroy the Minotaur has served as the basis of at least forty operas and poems. On the opening night of Massenet's work, Lucienne Breval was Ariane, Lucy Arbell was Persephone, and Lucien Muratore made his Opera debut as Thesee.
Maignan used the device of an insert to add content to his poster, then let Ariadne's robe spill over the decoration at the bottom, somehow combining all into a beautifully integrated design.
Mastered directly from a 1 to 1 file of an original stone lithograph this recreation provides you with all the fine details that you will see in the antique original. Printed on acid free 230-250 gm paper with 100+ year archival ink. Optional additional sizes available as well as print on fine American art canvas. The watermark does not appear on your print.
